The story is situated on Mars. It starts where UFO: Aftermath left off and runs simultaneously with UFO: Aftershock. While the Laputans on Earth are fighting Wargots and Starghosts and finding out what caused the destruction of their home planet, a small colony on Mars is trying to survive and flourish.

this is a highly innovative but low quality member of the X-COM family of games. It has pausable real-time combat like X-COM: Apocalypse. You aren't able to recruit new team members so you basically have to do a mission restart if one of your guys gets killed (although you can have robots on your team and build more robots). What is your favorite XCOM game? For quite a few people I expect the answer will be 'the first one I played.' This is certainly true in my case, and for me it is UFO Afterlight. I can see a lot of negative reviews about game not working at all. I have played it multiple times, also outside steam, and have never encountered any problems. There is plenty of research, items, skills and weapons upgrades available. There are no nameless engineers/scientists presented as a count, but every member of your staff has its own skills so you have to manage them carefully - one may be good at...

Best of UFO series, possibly even best from all UFO\X-COM series. Very interesting story line, alive characters with history, that you can actually read. Apply the official and unofficial patches, and look into the rebalance mod. They fix a lot of the weirdness and CTD bugs. here: http://www.strategycore.co.uk/files/ufo-afterlight/mods/ Accept that the game isn't XCOM. :(

There's a lot to say about this X-Com-like, but one of the most beautiful things is watching Mars being terraformed as you play through the game. It's like watching the Kim Robinson novels come to life.

I bought this game years ago. For the first time in my life, I am able to finally play it. I have gone through multiple laptops/computers over my lifetime, but none of those PCs were ever able to run this game no matter how good the specs were. Today, with the steam deck I can play it.
