CompareToy Odyssey is fundamentally an action-adventure platformer. The player spends the night exploring a randomly-generated house, defeating bosses in each of the unique rooms, and then going up against the final boss.

I did not enjoy the time I spent playing this game. Other negative reviews expand on the specifics so I won't repeat them here and will just say that I do not recommend this game.

The uninspired procedural generation leads to repetitive levels and frustrating difficulty spikes that make the gameplay more exhausting than enjoyable.

Toy Odyssey is a metroidvania/roguelite with permanent upgrades, very much in the vein of Rogue Legacy. That is to say that every time you die, the level layout changes, and you need to start from the beginning again. Much like in Rogue Legacy you get a currency as you play the game that can be used to upgrade your character permanently, making it stronger, tougher and more agile. This (in theory) allows skilled...

This is 1 of those games that "could have been there", the graphics is good, the story is mysterious and interesting, and soundtrack adds to the atmosphere. However, the combat system is just average, the control is terrible, and the random raids after you die each night will add a lot of frustration (you need lots of resources to build tower and defend the base, before you got the chance to do that, raiders will...

Roguelite platformer, full of flavor and creativity.. I'm enjoying it a lot! Creative, charming theme and plot about keeping the house from succumbing to all the forgotten, unloved toys. Great balance between randomization and continuity. It's not like a complete randomization every night even if you die and the house gets reset, there are multiple threads of overarching progress. Long, sleek learning curve. The...

At first your lack of health and damage dealing is annoying because you die so quick. After a while this gets better with upgrades, but then grinding kicks in. And it's apparent you need to grinda lot. The game is procedurally generated and so it resets if you die. That's fine. It however also resets if you manually quit out of the game, so all progress around the map is lost. That means you have to play for long...

It was hard for me to consider whether to recommend the game or not. I decided to recommend, but if you are interested in the game, read until the end before deciding to buy. This is a metroidvania-like game with a different concept from what I've seen so far. While the idea and the game itself seems well done, it's filled with bugs and poor design choices. Frankly, I only recommend it for metroidvania platformer...

I liked this game a lot more than I thought I would. The gameplay itself is far more appealing than it would first seem. Once you get the double jump, things are a lot better, though combat remains a bit annoying most of the time. It does have a bit of a "hook" to it and a few redeeming qualities, such as being able to upgrade your armor with scrap you find, and the art style of the enemies and backgrounds were...

I really wanted to like this game, it has a lot of potential - I can see the concept that was envisioned somewhere underneath the unfortunately messy experience this has otherwise turned out to be. For what it is, it's a fun little metroidvania-style game about exploring a randomized house layout, finding blueprints for new gear, crafting your base and leveling up your character by investing "bolts (the ingame...

In my first 30 minutes I died about 7 or so times mainly from fall damage. You know what is great in platforming games? Fall damage. Especially at short heights. Remember when playing Super Mario and you would die every time you fell three inches? No? Oh yeah, that's because FALL DAMAGE IN A 2D PLATFORMING GAME ESPECIALLY A METROIDVANIA IS THE STUPIDEST THING YOU CAN ADD. And I'm completely serious when I say that I...
