The button layout is for controllers, so on PC it's hard to know what buttons you even need to press because it only teaches you the controller buttons.

(when you have a good build) This game is third person diablo looter with tekken style combat with an insane number of magic/ninjutsu attacks. Just remember this, in Dark Souls, you wait for the opening then attack, in Nioh, you attack, attack and make sure to ki pulse so you can attack some more. I genuinely can't believe that Nioh 1 is almost 10 years old. It does not feel dated at all, especially the combat. The first Soul-like I ever played and it was fantastic. I could not get enough. Have over 200 hours on console and now played it again on pc.

The game took a little over 160 hours to 100%. I'm someone who greatly enjoys the souls genre in general, but when I played this game for the first time back when it released, I was never able to click with it. It wasn't until Nioh 2 released and I decided to take a gamble on it where all the puzzle pieces finally fell into place. I was stuck on the first boss of the game for 3 hours, died like 20 times, finally beat him and then find out he becomes a regular normal enemy later on. That's this game in a nutshell.

The quality of just about any Souls-like game hinges on its combat mechanics, and Nioh delivers in this regard. First couple of levels are torture, you get two hit or even one hit sometimes. If you have the patience to force your way through the beginning, then its probably a fun game. I don't, so this title aint for me. PC optimization is terrible, requires a installation of Vjoy and rebinding of keys to get it to even work.

This is exactly the kind of PC port that makes me question why the PC version was released in the first place. Nioh is a great game, but the PC version feels like an afterthought. The game does support keyboard and mouse, but it still presents controller button prompts throughout the interface and gameplay.
